CINCYSLOTS LAND SPEED RECORD RACE 2010

New World Land Speed Records Established in USA

Race Report by: Rod Evans (Cincinnati, Ohio)

The 265+ feet of track laid out in the CincySlots warehouse with three power supplies set  to 15v DC.

The 3rd annual Land Speed Record race for 1:32 scale slot cars was held at CincySlots http://www.cincyslots.com

in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 16th, 2011. Bruce Yeoman and the CincySlots staff organized and hosted the event in their warehouse.

The Carrera track was faster than last year with the addition of copper tape over the stock rails.  The track connection joints being

seamless copper tape also made the track smoother for greater speeds. Good News & Bad News… there were fewer de-slots before

˝ track,  but the crashes were occurring at a higher speeds than last year.  Of the 45 cars that were entered 41 surpassed the scale

speed of sound with some cars achieving over Mach 2.15  Tom McNay’s Twin NSR 46k powered Starfighter almost broke the speed limit

on many freeways with the fastest pass for the event nearing 55 mph!!!

Aerodynamics is definitely a major factor above 35-40 mph.  One attempt a car hit a bump in the track, pulled a wheelie then the

front got picked up by the air…the car flipped up and over, back-flipping into the air at 40+ mph, 8 inches off the concrete floor.

Eventually it found a solid obstruction that ended its flight... The car struck the 1st timing bridge and was impacted in the left rear corner.

The one remaining screw in the right rear corner was still holding the body to the chassis when the car came to rest.

The body and chassis had twisted and fanned out. It had thrown the interior, driver head, windscreen, mirrors, fender and wing

in all directions as it spun after impact.

The record for a 1:32 scale slot car according to the Guinness Book of World Records is 30.746 mph (983.88 scale Mph)

by a Scalextric F-1 car driven by Dallas Campbell. On June 6th, 2008, In Chatsworth, United Kingdom.
